JXe at Fleet Street, Newcastle

an intimate showcase of north east talent

Tucked away in a charming alley just moments from Central Station in Newcastle, you'll discover Fleet Street – a delightful bar and venue where we had the pleasure of attending JxE's acoustic covers gig

JxE is a talented brother-sister duo consisting of Erin Roche and Josh Hodgson. The intimate setting of Fleet Street provided the perfect backdrop for JxE's performance, with the soft lighting and cozy atmosphere enhancing the connection between the duo and the audience. Erin’s and Josh’s captivating vocals paired with the skillful guitar playing created an enchanting vibe that filled the room. Their unique take on acoustic covers showcased their undeniable chemistry and musical talent, leaving us completely mesmerized. It was the kind of night where you felt like you were part of something special, as if the music was tailored just for you.

They effortlessly blended heartfelt emotion with their signature sound, making each song feel fresh and personal. Erin and Josh’s perfectly complimenting harmonies soared, rich with emotion, while Josh’s guitar provided a perfect, subtle foundation that added depth to every note. Their rendition of Amy Macdonald’s This Is The Life was both uplifting and poignant, while their take on Coldplay’s Yellow had a delicate quality, bringing a new layer of warmth and intimacy to the iconic track. It was clear that they were reinterpreting the music in a way that felt uniquely theirs.

Despite the casual vibe of the evening, JxE maintained an impressive level of professionalism, seamlessly engaging with the crowd while keeping the music flowing smoothly. Their ability to adapt to the energy of the room was truly remarkable. When the night took an unexpected turn with a spontaneous request for Kings of Leon’s Sex On Fire, the duo delivered an electrifying performance, injecting that interactive energy into the intimate atmosphere. It was moments like these that really showcased their versatility and ability to read the room, shifting from mellow acoustic tunes to something a bit more lively, all while maintaining their signature style.

As the evening wound down, the audience was left wanting more, with applause and cheers resonating throughout the venue. Erin and Josh’s connection with the crowd was palpable, making it clear that they were sharing something meaningful with us. By the end of the night, it was hard not to feel a little bit closer to the music and the artists themselves, as if they had let us into their world for just a brief moment.

If you’re out and about in the North East, don’t miss the chance to check out JxE. It’s an experience that offers more than just a great performance, it’s a reminder of the power of live music to create connections and memories that linger long after the last note fades.
